Selva in Action welcomes new Medical and Dental Directors
Selva in Action (SIA) is proud to welcome Dr. Luis Espinoza as our new Medical Director and Dr. Sammi Ráez, DDS as our new Dental Director.
Dr. Luis Espinoza
Born in Peru, Luis attended Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal and did his Medical Residency Programs at Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplastica (Oncology), MCP/Hahnemann University (Internal Medicine) and the University of Miami (HIV/AIDS). A resident of Florida, Luis was until recently Medical Director for South Florida AIDS Education and Training Center, and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. Currenty he is the Medical Director for Public Health and Medical Affairs in the Caribbean, Central America and part of South America for a large biopharmaceutical company.
Luis has been a member of the Peruvian American Medical Society for 25 years and is the current President-Elect and PAMS Finance Director. Over the years, he has participated in numerous disaster and humanitarian relief campaigns.
Luis is married to Dr. Lita Calagua, and they have two sons attending medical school, Diego at the University of Pennsylvania and David at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Sammi Ráez, DDS
Sammi has a solo private practice, specializing in Periodontics in San Antonio, Texas. She was born and raised in California, and then joined the Army at the age of 18. She met her husband, Eduardo R. Ráez, while in the Army training school. Together, they went to the Army’s undergraduate Medical & Dental school. After spending 30 years in the Army, Sammi retired as a Colonel in 2005, when she began her private practice. Sammi and Eduardo have two adult children, a daughter, Samantha, and a son, Ezra. Eduardo is an OB/Gyn in a private practice. Sammi enjoys all types of athletic activities, especially distance cycling. Sammi also enjoys traveling to 1 to 2 foreign countries a year for cycling, hiking & kayaking adventures.
